Ojos del Salado Volcano, with a height of 6893 m, is the highest volcano in the world located in the Atacama Desert, about 799 km north of Santiago, near the city of Copiapó in Chile. This impressive volcano situated in the heart of the highlands is surrounded by salt lakes and many other great mountains and volcanoes. This is the second highest mountain outside of Asia. It is composed of many colors in complete isolation from big cities. This is an extreme and demanding expedition due to an altitude of 6893 meters above sea level. Today at 1:00 am, we set out for the summit of Ojos del Salado Volcano 6893 m. We will ascend via the north route; we may use crampons depending on the season of the expedition. Generally, the season with the most snow on Ojos del Salado occurs during the southern hemisphere winter months from May to September. However, it is a mountain that maintains snow or ice on its summit and upper parts year-round due to its extreme altitude. Snowstorms, sometimes due to the 'Bolivian Winter,' can occur even in summer, between November and April. Once at the crater, we use a safety rope to climb the last 40 meters to the top of Ojos del Salado volcano. After the summit, we return to the Tejos camp. If the group is in condition to continue descending, we can go down to the Atacama camp to rest.
